    Monday, 01 June 2009 19:39 The Executive Student Board (BEM) from 9 Universities joined BEM of the College of Public Health, Diponegoro University to declare campus free initiative program on May 31, 2009 at GKPRI Hotel, Semarang, Indonesia.  BEM of the College of Public Health, Diponegoro University, Semarang State University, STIKES Ngudi Waluyo, Muhammadyah University at Semarang, Dian Nuswantoro University, Achmad DahlanUniversity at Yogyakarta, STIKES Surya Global Yogyakarta, Pekalongan University, Muhamdyah University at Surakarta declared a commitment to strive the petition on smoking ban around campus.     COPH Dean’s speech on “Stop Smoking Advocacy Unit” Launching at COHP, Diponegoro University), 11 Maret 2009, 08:18:29

    Ladies and gentlemen,

    Today is a great day for all of us, because our dream for almost 3 years of having Stop Smoking Advocacy Unit at COHP has come true. At the beginning this dream has been so tough to be realized. Thank to  WHO, South East Tobacco Control (SEATCA), Union, TCSC (Tobacco Control Support Centre), QTI, Bloomberg (Training Grant at John Hopkins USA), YLKI, LPA, MOH of Indonesia, and Provincial Health Office of Central Java that give a bulk support to realize our dream.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

    Our vision is to work on eradication of our smoker generation and to eliminate tobacco related impact in all aspects.

    Our missions:

    1. To increase awareness on tobacco hazard related impact in all aspects
    2. To analyze policy on control, use and distribution of tobacco in Indonesia
    3. To build network on tobacco control and prevention.

    Distinguish guests,

    To implement our vision and mission of stop smoking advocation, we want to conduct many activities such as:

    1. Training on strategy to develop free smoking are
    2. Training on advocacy to develop free smoking area
    3. Training on empowering vulnerable people from hazard of cigarette smoking
    4. Training on mentoring client to stop smoking

      We hope that all parties will continue to support our effort on our campus free smoking program.

    • Facts about smoking in Indonesia

      1.    The Association between Knowledge-Attitude and Practice of Smoking among Undergraduate students of the College of Public Health, Diponegoro University

      The researcher interviewed 42 undergraduate students  of the College of Public Health, Diponegoro University. Almost sixty percents of respondents responded on good knowledge on the hazard of smoking and  52 % respondents said they did not support smoking. The research showed that  there was no association between knowledge and Smoking practice (p=0,491); as well as attitude and smoking practice (p= 0,361).

      2.    The Determinant of Smoking Behavior among Undergraduate Students of the College of Public Health, Muhammadiyah University, Aceh Darussalam

      Most students did not attend any health education on smoking and its effects. The results showed that there was a correlation between attitude toward smoking (p=0.00), advertisements on cigarette (p=0.01), and smoking addiction (p=0.01) and the students’ smoking behavior. The results also showed no correlation between knowledge on smoking and its effects (p=0.67), and students’ anxiety (p=5.15) and their smoking behavior. Demographic factors did not contribute to smoking behavior. However the students’ brothers smoked (p=0.00) related to the students’ smoking behavior. Smoking addiction, having probability value of 4.15 (p=0.02), was the dominant factor to smoking behavior.

      3.    KEMENKES BERTANGGUNG JAWAB ATASI DAMPAK NEGATIF TEMBAKAU (Ministry of Health is responsible to control negative impact of tobacco)

      Ministry of Health stated that 2 out of 3 men in Indonesia are active smokers. The she cited also the report of The Global Youth Survey (2006) that 6 out of  10 students or 64,2% were exposed to second hand tobacco smoking  and 37,3% of students are active smokers.

    • Menurunkan angka kematian bayi dengan persalinan normal

      Menurunkan angka kematian bayi dalam pendekatan faktor sosial dapat dilakukan dengan cara memperbaiki perilaku hidup sehat sebelum kehamilan. Segera setalah hamil, maka ibu hamil diberikan akses untuk menjaga pola hidup sehat dan akses pemeliharaan kehamilan. Pada waktu persalinan juga menentukan apakah si ibu akan melahirkan bayi secara aman dan tidak. Dalam video terlampir ini diberikan ilustrasi bahwa persalinan yang ditolong oleh bidan di USA lebih aman daripada persalinan dengan sistem caesar.
